For anyone interested (who haven't already signed up for the CIAS insider), I received this e-mail today from the CIAS organizers looking for people to express their support for the Airshow in light of an organized group opposed to the noise:

There are small group of resourceful people trying
to close down the Canadian International Air Show.
(NO JOKE!) These people are calling everyone they
can, complaining about excessive noise and low-flying
aircraft. You can help!

Please contact the individuals below to voice
your SUPPORT for the Canadian International Air Show.
Passionate and supportive people like you are the
reason why we put on our amazing display every year.

Right now, the people below are hearing nothing but
complaints. This has to change.

We have no problem with people who aren't fans of
the air show. Everyone is entitled to their own
opinion. There are, however, an overwhelming group
of people who love the CIAS and we want your voice
to be heard, too.

Please take a few minutes to help keep the air show
flying. It’s going to spectacular! I look forward to
meeting many of you in a couple of days and I know you
are all going to love this year's presentation!

To show my support for the show, I will be in attendance. that speaks louder than any email or phone call.

The best flight shots I have seen from this show. Looks like we need to rent as boat for next year.

Great shooting Bill

Cheers Dave C

Thanks for the great comments guys. I too was thrilled when i started looking at the shots. Having the sun behind me was a real bonus at CIAS.

Yes, I was on the Coast Guard ship (spent my whole career so far with the Coast Guard). I just went for the one day but if I had known how great it would be I might have stayed onboard for the whole weekend!

I found it really hard to shoot because the planes were going right overhead most of the time, but we got buzzed a lot and I certainly got some different angles than the norm. Mike Wiskus treated the ship like a pilon and almost scraped the paint! Even better than the great photos was hearing the engine sounds being so close to the acts. My favourite was the sound of the horseman - incredible! The one BA that did a low pass on the water was incredible also. We had to look down from the ship to see him. The water was bubbling for a about 30 seconds after he passed.

This isn't a great shot but it shows the odd angle. The Line-abreast finale almost looks like a 9-stack. By the way, where is the pilot in #2??

Here's Mike Wiskus coming at us. The white object at the left is part of the ship!

I also got the distinct impression that the pilots were looking at us!

Cheers, Bill

Very nice Mike! We could probably get you a job on a Coast Guard Ship but you may be breaking ice in the Arctic!

Hey guys, if anyone has any shots of the Coast Guard ship during the show, the crew and I would love to see some. You may even see me standing just outside the bridge.

Regards,
Bill
