We didn't notify the press this time. They were getting a bit "T-Birded out".

Just to clear up a couple things...both aircraft could communicate with each other, but Turbo's didn't work very well with ATC. They generally fly in formation because they can, and are obviously rated for this. The first 2 aircraft (same pilots) that arrived in the spring also flew in formation. And Turbo was quite pleased to back behind the stick again, and was not at all upset about being here. If he hadn't wanted to be here, he simply wouldn't have come!

Here are a couple of shots of the last two T-Birds arriving on runway 27 yesterday.

Great pictures and I can understand the media being tired a bit but still newsworthy though. The one bird with the olive drap painted out markings, was this done recently as I do not recall any having this color of paint over the markings?

All the CAF markings are removed, or painted over, before JAM takes delivery of them. I'm not sure exactly when this was done, but I'm guessing they just had some spare olive paint around. It's too bad they do that, cause we're just going to be painting them back on again sometime in the future.

Thanks Paul,
out of the figure of $20,000 being thrown around to get the aircraft flyable for next year, what is the biggest cost or repairs that are needed?

I think one of the heavier costs in installing a new civilian transponder but I could be mixed up in thinking which piece of avionics it is. I know its one of the things the Hammond's have had to install as well and I think it if you pay for both hardware and install it can be around a 8000 dollar job. I'm sure there is other stuff that is just one of the bigger ones.

David could be right about the transponder. I'm not sure what's involved with that, but it has certainly been holding up the Hammonds from getting ready. There is also about an $8,000 charge from the DoT to get the aircraft certified as well. It's hard to say what total costs will be until it's stripped down and each part inspected. Plans are still to have one ready by spring.

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling it would be avionics military to civil fit related. Paul do you have a museum type display area inside the hangar for pctures memorabilia etc?

Not really, though we do have some old RCAF uniforms that we had on display for the Open House and Doors Open. I think the whole hangar will soon be quite full of stripped apart T-33, so there wont be much room for any displays. However, there's always room on the wall for some T-Bird pictures!

If anyone uses Facebook, there are links from the JAM website to a Facebook page and Photo Album that Kevin Moore, from the Trenton area, has created. Got lots of great photos from Mountainview!
